Crush (Crave #2)

Tracy Wolff

Everything feels off—especially me. I’ve returned to Katmere Academy, but I’m haunted by fragments of days I have no recollection of living and struggling to understand who, or what, I really am.

Just when I start to feel safe again, Hudson is back with a vengeance. He insists there are secrets I don’t know about, threatening to drive a wedge between Jaxon and me forever. But far worse enemies are at our doorstep.

The Circle is caught in a power play and the Vampire Court is trying to drag me out of my world and into theirs. The only thing Hudson and Jaxon agree on is that leaving Katmere would mean my certain death.

And not only am I fighting for my life, but now everyone else’s is at stake—unless we can defeat an unspeakable evil. All I know is that saving the people I love is going to require sacrifice.

Maybe more than I’m able to give.

My Opinion

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)   I like this series purely for entertainment purposes, however, I have a lot of problems with it too. Grace seems very immature. She’s ultimately a very stereotypical teen with extra drama thrown in. She’s very, very obsessed with Jaxon (I don’t say obsessed lightly) and it very much reminds me of Twilight. I know a lot don’t agree that it has a Twilight feel but for me it’s very blatant. The cheesy romance is very passionate. So passionate that it feels weird reading teens having these feelings. Don’t get me wrong, I read YA a lot but, their passion and “need” for each other can be cringey.

That being said, I was still entertained. Wolff knows how to throw in a lot of twists and turns! I feel she definitely fills scenes with fluff more than substance sometimes and the book could’ve been about 200 pages shorter without any info lost, but those scenes are also very entertaining and sometimes easy to devour.

Along with excessive teen passion, I feel Wolff tries to get in multiple tropes into one book which can be a bit exhausting. Also, a few things here and there just don’t add up like, her bestie from back home is perfectly fine not hearing from Grace for four months and hasn’t freaked out? That a simple text will hold her over? Not buying it.

Ultimately, I was entertained and will read book 3. The chapters were gloriously short, it was very easy to read and it didn’t feel like 700 pages. Wolff will have the next one out in only 5 months so it’s fun to keep up with it.
