The Blacksmith Queen (The Scarred Earth Saga #1)

G.A. Aiken

When a prophesy brings war to the Land of the Black Hills, Keeley Smythe must join forces with a clan of mountain warriors who are really centaurs in a thrilling new fantasy romance series from New York Times bestselling author G.A. Aiken.
The Old King Is Dead

With the demise of the Old King, there’s a prophesy that a queen will ascend to the throne of the Black Hills. Bad news for the king’s sons, who are prepared to defend their birthright against all comers. But for blacksmith Keeley Smythe, war is great for business. Until it looks like the chosen queen will be Beatrix, her younger sister. Now it’s all Keeley can do to protect her family from the enraged royals.

Luckily, Keeley doesn’t have to fight alone. Because thundering to her aid comes a clan of kilt-wearing mountain warriors called the Amichai. Not the most socially adept group, but soldiers have never bothered Keeley, and rough, gruff Caid, actually seems to respect her. A good thing because the fierce warrior will be by her side for a much longer ride than any prophesy ever envisioned …

My Opinion

4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5) My friend was listening to this and was thoroughly enjoying it so I gave it a try. I loved it! I loved the lead characters, their loyalty and their sibling rivalry. Oh wow, is that what it’s like to have a sister close in age? Actually, it can’t be, they were so aggressive that I laughed. Most of the others around them did too. That was pure entertainment.

The sisters were all tough chick, loyal, don’t-mess-with-me types and that’s totally up my alley. It was funny, exciting and touching all wrapped up in one. Then elves, centaurs, hell wolves, dragons and dwarves joined and it was a merry ball of fun. Twists and turns were around every corner, it was pure entertainment, I highly recommend if you’re ok with the content.

Content mentions are high! The language and gore assaults you right at the start so if that bothers you then you’ll have to skip this one. The language contains many F words and some graphic terms of words that are not typically condoned. The violence is awfully descriptive at times. There was one sex scene but it was short.

I have to say thank you to Kensington Books! I found this audio on Scribd but as soon as I requested book 2 as an ARC, they got right back to me and sent it right off. So fast and so great. I’m anxiously awaiting now!
