The One

John Marrs

How far would you go to find The One?

A simple DNA test is all it takes. Just a quick mouth swab and soon you’ll be matched with your perfect partner–the one you’re genetically made for.

That’s the promise made by Match Your DNA. A decade ago, the company announced that they had found the gene that pairs each of us with our soul mate. Since then, millions of people around the world have been matched. But the discovery has its downsides: test results have led to the breakup of countless relationships and upended the traditional ideas of dating, romance and love.

Now five very different people have received the notification that they’ve been “Matched.” They’re each about to meet their one true love. But “happily ever after” isn’t guaranteed for everyone. Because even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking than others…

My Opinion

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5) Wow, what a whirlwind! I picked this up on #scribd on a whim. I soon was transfixed. The psychology of this is fascinating! People are matched to be a couple using their DNA. You meet 5 people who are meeting their match; a serial killer, a woman’s match is terminally ill, a match is a person who has died, a man who’s match is another man (he’s engaged to a woman), and a corporate businesswoman too busy for love. I can’t give you more details because from there, the juicy stuff happens. Each match has problems and it is oddly fascinating to see it play out. I was shocked many times and thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend this if you love a book with drama. This will keep you entertained! It would also make a great book club pick because to hash out those details would’ve been really great.

The content has language (including F words), violence from a serial killer’s actions (descriptive), some details on two men being intimate, two killings (separate from serial killer victims), and more. Triggers are high for infertility, miscarriages, talk of abortion, talk of suicide, loss of loved ones, infidelity, terminal illness and that struggle, and child endangerment.
