My Opinion

3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5) This is the most unique book I have ever read! Sarilla is a Memoria who is able to take people’s memories. She is able to rifle through with just a touch and the terrible king uses her ability to his benefit.

Sarilla is a mysterious character. I wanted to know more about her, more about her past and especially more about her love interest, Fallon. I wish I could’ve had a few chapters of their history together to better understand their relationship. They were both intriguing and frustrating! Each was flawed in their own way and I liked seeing how that impacted their time together.

The writing in this book at times is almost poetic. I loved getting lost in this world and reading the bounce of the words along the page.  It was different and new in uncharted territory. The thought of having memories stolen or picked through made me consider my own and their worth.

The ending was great with just the right amount of twist and wonder. When finished, I realized I still had a lot of questions. While more info is given at the end, I don’t feel I fully grasped the history of Memoria or the concept behind what they were doing. I feel I missed a few chapters that could have explained it more. I also never felt the power behind the two main character’s relationship, so I didn’t understand the influence Fallon had on Sarilla. There was another relationship that I wondered what the relevance of it was? It seemed to be thrown in with no importance. All in all this was a hard one to rate. I loved the uniqueness of it but didn’t fully understand the Memoria. The kindle book is $2.99 right now and the audio is free on Spotify and Itunes for a limited time.

Thank you to Rachel Emma Shaw for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Last Memoria

A heartbreaking dark fantasy thriller about flawed people making flawed decisions. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind meets Joe Abercrombie.

Sarilla has learnt one thing from stealing memories. Everybody lies.

There’s nothing Sarilla hates more than stealing memories, but the king forces her to take them to keep his subjects in line. She wants to escape to where nobody knows what she is or what she can do, but her plans go awry when she runs into Falon.

Falon has a six month void in his memories that he’s desperate to restore. He doesn’t know why they were taken or what they contained, nor why the man he loves is acting so cagily about what happened during that time. He hopes to use Sarilla to get back his stolen memories and doesn’t care what she wants or why she’s desperate to escape. She will help him get them back, whether she wants to or not.
