My Opinion

4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5) I loved it! I was thoroughly entertained throughout the entire book. Bardugo was amazing at drawing you in to their lives and making you feel for these characters. The entire book was exciting and filled with twists around the corner. One teen is hired for a large heist and you learn the ins and outs of the job. It felt a little like the Italian Job movie or even Oceans 11. A large focus was a drug that caused huge magical side effects. To me, the characters didn’t necessarily feel like teens, or at least rarely did, but as the story went on I learned they were probably all 15-18 even though some I’m still not sure.

The content was high in violence. There were not a lot of gory details but there was a lot of fighting and weapons. There was not sex but there was a lot of talk about brothels and the women or girls that were there and how this affected them. It was something talked about throughout the book but no details were given about sex. Drugs were a bit more than normal. The book is based on a drug that causes magical abilities to amplify and the heist to retrieve the man who made it. The drug is highly addictive and can be fatal. Language was minimal. Overall, a very adventurous book that I think a lot of people will enjoy. The brothels might be a bit mature for some and the violence and drugs might be excessive for some. Amazon says this book is 12 years old and up but depending on the child’s maturity, I would go a bit higher in age.
