“If you can’t beat the odds, you change the game.”
(4.5 / 5) This was almost a 5 star book for me. Honestly, the only reason it’s not is that I didn’t feel the need to devour it. It didn’t stick with me after I stopped. But truly, this story is amazing. The details that Bardugo put into the heist, the details she put into each person’s story and the ability she had to bring me along with my full attention was incredible. I’ve read a few of her books but it’s been years. I need to check out a few others to see if she writes at this caliber for everything.
The content was decent. More language, about the same for intimacy (a few more details but not a lot) and the violence was still high without a lot of gory details. I think mature teens would do well with this. I say mature for the amount of details and the ability to follow along well. If you or your child are OK with the details in my categories, then I feel most anyone would enjoy this. There’s not a ton of romance which is why I would recommend this to more men and boys but there was a small LGBTQ romance that was very well done.
One last note; the audio on this duology is amazing. It has a full cast of characters and each one is fabulous. Each character/actor has different voices for each person and it is easy to tell who is talking. Not one of them had an annoying voice for the opposite sex (one of my issues with audiobooks!) and I would give the audio version 5 stars for sure.
