Paranormal Romance

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance.

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast—again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange—again…

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It’s clear from the way he tracks Misery’s every movement that he doesn’t trust her. If only he knew how right he was….

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she’s ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.

My Opinion

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5) Misery Lark has been used by her father and her people once before. As a vampyre, she was traded into human territory for ten years, essentially to be used as collateral. If war ever broke out between humans and vampyres, they’d have Misery to kill in retaliation. Now, as an adult, she is no longer held in that position but has found a place among humans where she can hide and pretend she’s one of them. Until her dad comes calling, requiring here to marry a Werewolf to once again be used as a bargaining chip.

The only people Misery loves are her best friend and twin brother. Her best friend has recently gone missing and Misery is determined to find her. In the Were territory, she has access to information she needs. She agrees to this marriage for her own selfish concerns but of course finds there is much more to the Were leader, Lowe.

This was a fun read. It fell into almost every single overdone vampire or werewolf trope there is. I could predict almost everything but still found myself entertained. The romance was a hesitant slow burn until it grew into flames as the story progressed. I really loved the ending and all the excitement packed in. Here’s to hoping for book 2!

I recommend this for those that love paranormal romances with suspense woven in!

AUDIO REVIEW: Therese Plummer did the majority of the narration, with Will Damron as a secondary. Both were great but Therese won out for the entertainment factor. She had fluctuations in voice that fit perfectly whether it was sarcasm or a question and more. It almost felt as if the book was written for her voice! The narration boosted the entertainment of the book and I found myself laughing out loud. Bravo!
