House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City #3)

Sarah J. Mass

Adult Romantacy

The stunning third book in the sexy, action-packed Crescent City series, following the global bestsellers House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath.

Bryce Quinlan never expected to see a world other than Midgard, but now that she has, all she wants is to get back. Everything she loves is in Midgard: her family, her friends, her mate. Stranded in a strange new world, she’s going to need all her wits about her to get home again. And that’s no easy feat when she has no idea who to trust.

Hunt Athalar has found himself in some deep holes in his life, but this one might be the deepest of all. After a few brief months with everything he ever wanted, he’s in the Asteri’s dungeons again, stripped of his freedom and without a clue as to Bryce’s fate. He’s desperate to help her, but until he can escape the Asteri’s leash, his hands are quite literally tied.

In this sexy, breathtaking sequel to the #1 bestsellers House of Earth and Blood and House of Sky and Breath, Sarah J. Maas’s Crescent City series reaches new heights as Bryce and Hunt’s world is brought to the brink of collapse-with its future resting on their shoulders.

My Opinion

“You’re as much of a monster as they are.”

4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5) I’m shocked, I loved this one! The Crescent City series has been very hit and miss for me. I’ve loved the story but the romance was just too much for me at times. When the romance seems more of the focus for a story, my attention seems to falter. (My reviews for books one and two)

I love that this book focused so much on the story and less about the romance. What Maas truly excels in is the world building and characters. This book felt like it gave the many of layers of her story justice. Don’t get me wrong, there was still plenty of romance, it just didn’t take over the story as it did in book two.

Jeseba’s back story has to be a favorite for me. She has been mysterious and intellectual in a way that intrigued me. Also, I noticed names from what I believe is from A Court of Thorns and Roses series. After discussing the book with book club, I learned Mass will be connecting that series and worlds in a new book, I believe from the Crescent City series. While that sounds amazing, I did not love ACOTAR well enough to continue after book one. My worry is that I will miss out on some of the information. I guess we will see!
