The Endless War (The Bridge Kingdom #4)

Danielle L. Jensen

Adult Fantasy

The electrifying fourth installment in the Bridge Kingdom series.

Newly crowned as king, Keris has watched, powerless, as his forbidden relationship with Zarrah is revealed. But when Zarrah is imprisoned by the empress, Keris knows there is only one way to save her: to ally with the kingdom he nearly destroyed.

Imprisoned on the dreaded Devil’s Island, Zarrah faces two choices: prove her loyalty to the empress who condemned her or die a traitor. Yet as she struggles to survive among violent prisoners, Zarrah uncovers a third path: a rebellion to overthrow tyranny entwined with a destiny she must fight to claim.

While the empress plots a war with devastating consequences, Keris and Zarrah must find their way back to each other. Yet their greatest adversary is the fiery passion between them. Unless they overcome the bitterness of betrayal, their love will not be the bringer of peace but rather the fuel that turns the Endless War into an inferno.

My Opinion

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) If you’ve followed me for a while now, you’ve clearly experienced my obsession with this series. It’s still going strong!

At book 4, I won’t get into too many details but we have Keris and Zarrah as the POV’s. So far, Jensen is giving each couple 2 books in the series. Just enough to get us to love them, then hate her (Jensen) for putting them in the background. It’s a love/hate relationship we have with these authors (cough, cough Jensen). Sigh. But I still love them. Every. Single. Book.

I think Lara and Aren will always be my favorite but Keris and Zarrah have just as much going for them. The betrayal, the killings within family, the drama between the two never gets old. There is not a dull moment!

AUDIO REVIEW: Fabulous as always! The two narrators play off each other well. Neither one of them have a voice that grates on me (phew!!) and I just enjoy listening to the entire story. I’ve already started a re-listen of the entire series so just know when I say it’s 5 stars, the entire series truly deserves it!

General content summary: As with the last book, Jensen has taken a turn to more intimacy details than the first two books. It’s not enough for me to not listen, she actually does it respectfully (I wouldn’t be calling it “smut”) but as you probably know, I’d rather have more story than intimacy.

F words= 20+, C*** word= 1, attempted drowning, attempted kidnapping (fighting, sword, death, blood), cannibalism, alcohol (multiple), naked request for intimacy (very detailed, multiple),  many weapon deaths (some details, battle),  a prisoner is known for cutting off people’s faces and wearing them, villages burned (few details), physical violence (multiple, weapons, blood, injuries, death), bathhouse (nakedness), brothel (intimacy details), suicide contemplation (brief), descriptions of corpses from battle, captivity, physical aggression (blood, injuries, weapons, death), fall (deaths) from a large height.

Even though the audio is out (only through Audible) the book releases November 28, 2023.
