The Prisoner

B.A. Paris

Thriller

Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. As she builds a life for herself, she is swept up into a glamorous lifestyle where she married the handsome billionaire Ned Hawthorne.

But then, Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband Ned?

With Behind Closed Doors, B.A. Paris takes the psychological thriller to shocking new heights. Now she’ll hold you captive with this stunning new thriller about one woman wed into a family with deadly intentions.

My Opinion

3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5) After a tragic past, Amelie is thrown into a whirlwind marriage with a billionaire. She is then kidnapped and held for ransom.

The story started fast and engaging. Learning who Amelie was before the kidnapping was a crucial part of the story. We’re led back and forth through her story while also experiencing the kidnapping at present. So many pieces start falling into place and the short chapters kept the book moving quickly.

Ultimately, I did not feel invested in Amelie and her story. I liked her but not enough to care about her. The story was good but the delivery lacked. I didn’t feel emotion or intensity when people died. The outline of the story seemed to fit together too well. It was too clean, not enough twists to get my heart hammering. Don’t get me wrong, I was entertained, it kept my attention. There just wasn’t enough zest to grab me. I was here for the story, not the characters and that’s fine, I just prefer more focus on character development.
