A Hard Day for a Hangover (Sunshine Vicram #3)

Darynda Jones

Thriller

Some people greet the day with open arms. Sheriff Sunshine Vicram would rather give it a hearty shove and get back into bed, because there’s just too much going on right now. There’s a series of women going missing, and Sunny feels powerless to stop it. There’s her persistent and awesomely-rebellious daughter Auri, who’s out to singlehandedly become Del Sol’s youngest and fiercest investigator. And then there’s drama with Levi Ravinder—the guy she’s loved and lusted after for years. The guy who might just be her one and only. The guy who comes from a family of disingenuous vipers looking to oust him—and Sunshine—for good.

Like we said, the new day can take a hike.

My Opinion

“When life hands you lemons, hand them back, you deserve chocolates.”

5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5) I adore this series. Any book that can make me lough out loud is a keeper! But is it over? Please tell me it’s not over.

I waited as long as possible to finish this book, I just didn’t want it to end. I’ve never found myself loving a series so much. The characters are hilarious! I’m literally laughing and making facial expressions throughout. THAT is good writing.

Without going into the series too much, if you love Gilmore Girls humor, sarcasm, banter and non-stop thrillers then it’s for you! Not only does the book keep me on the edge of my seat but it’s done well enough to tug at my emotions.

AUDIO REVIEW: While I love the book, I listened to the first 2 on audio. I was reading and could hear the narrator’s voice in my head so I ended up focusing on the audio. The sarcasm was so much better on audio! The only problem I had was that her teen voices sounded much younger. At the beginning of the series I struggled to understand how old Auri was due to this. Overall, the sarcasm and snark came through so well that I quickly forgot.

General content summary: F words= 20, language, knitting needles stuck into a man’s neck, stories of a man flashing his naked body (no details), young woman found with many injuries assumed from a assailant (rape, bite marks), young woman found mostly undressed, physical abuse injuries on a teen boy, references to suicide, detailed intimacy, previous adoption and foster care, bus crash full of kids (blood, broken bones, some kid’s unconscious), active shooter (intense scenes, teens, some blood), physical violence (blood, some details, gun), gun shot wound (some details, few, blood, deaths), gun threat (multiple),  break ins and theft.
