Malorie (Bird Box #2)

Josh Malerman

Post Apocalyptic Horror

Now from the mind of a true master of suspense comes the next chapter in Bird Box. This time, Malorie is front and center, and she will confront the dangers of her world head-on.

Twelve years after Malorie and her children rowed up the river to safety, a blindfold is still the only thing that stands between sanity and madness. One glimpse of the creatures that stalk the world will drive a person to unspeakable violence. There remains no explanation. No solution.

All Malorie can do is survive.
But then comes what feels like impossible news. And with it, the first time Malorie has allowed herself to hope. Someone very dear to her, someone she believed dead, may be alive.

Malorie has a harrowing choice to make: to live by the rules of survival that have served her so well, or to venture into the darkness and reach for hope once more.

My Opinion

4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5) In my never-ending search for spooky reads, I remembered Bird Box. That show and audiobook scared me to death! It was creepy and gave me anxiety listening/watching their trials. When I saw PRH Audio had book 2, I knew I needed it.

While this one was good, very good at parts, it still wasn’t quite as good as book 1. However, where the author took it was still fascinating.

This book continues about 10yrs after the first. Malorie and her kids live alone with just as many survival rules. Her kids are now teens and they’re giving her a run for her money (like they all do!) One is pushing back on every belief and rule she has. When they randomly get some news, they know they need to leave and travel quite a bit away.

It’s done well! It gave me anxiety (in the best way, if that’s possible) and kept me glued. It was a great addition to my spooky reads this month!

General content summary: F words= 17, sounds of people being killed, body found of a woman with a knife in her chest, physical violence, captivity, death by arrow, grief, many dead bodies found (no details), general creepy feeling throughout.
