My Opinion
(3 / 5) Maas is the ultimate at world-building! Truly, she keeps me guessing every time. This one was right up there with blindsides and twists to keep me entertained.
While I continue to love Maas, this one definitely wasn’t a fav. I do truly love her worlds but this book seemed to have a lot of “oh ya, this was kept a secret so here’s this shocker;” that I believe just made it convenient to add story in. Using those multiple times got repetitive and honestly, I expect more from her as an author. It seemed to be the easy way to fill plot holes and move the story along (can we say holy cow to the jam-packed 800 pages?)
But also, wow the smut factor went way up on this one! If I had to read that Bryce “curls her toes” one more time I was gonna puke. They continually lusted after each other, or replayed their night together, or were actually being intimate and it just felt nonstop. Usually I can tune out or skip a few paragraphs and be perfectly fine with the smut. It was nearly impossible with this book. Putting that aside, it was full of action and I’m in awe at the detail in this world.
General content summary: These are definitely adult. Someone scanned their kindle to see how much it cusses. It says the F word 520 some times and the S word 222 times. F words: 100+, references to torture and brutal deaths, sexual intimacy (very detailed, multiple times), demons and creatures, drowning, many killings some are brutal with details, mistreatment of children, slavery, abuse of slaves.

I can’t really, I cannot see how anybody thinks she is talented at world-building, writing, or anything else. She wrote mate”” something like 700 + times in another book

I’m amazed that these are considered YA!
They are very much adult! I think some people assume they’re YA because Maas has written YA before but these are very adult. Obviously!
