My Opinion

4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5) We have Harper and Rhen back! I disliked book 2. I know, I know, it was Grey and we love Grey (I really do!) but it had a different feel. and I missed Rhen and Harper. I also didn’t like Lia Mara until this book. I grew to like her and she added to the book instead of took away. It took a bit to get into but then there were times I was flying through these pages. I liked having all four POV’s. It worked well bringing the books together for the conclusion.

Lia Mara appears weak to her soldiers and those around her. She strives to be kind and compassionate. It’s such a stark difference from her mother that she is viewed as lesser. Her fight for stability and respect is admirable and not something I typically think about with royalty. Her throne can be taken by anyone who kills her and that adds an extra element of suspense. I would’ve liked more on her sister and the throne because I see possible conspiracy there. That could be a great spin-off book.

Lilith is such an interesting character. Ruthless and unrelenting, she brings such callousness to the story. I often like these characters the most, not because they’re loveable but because of the complications they bring. She’s unstable and it makes for dramatic pages.

I feel Kemmerer gave us closure and I love the ending. But maybe there are a few things left undone for another book? It says this is the conclusion but I can see potential for a spin-off.

Content Summary: Intimacy was high with a few sex scenes and vaguely detailed foreplay. The two couples are passionate a few times. Violence is high with details or torture and blood.
