My Opinion
(4.5 / 5) I loved this book! I have never read a space opera, I actually had to look up the definition, but once I got used to it, I ate it up. I loved getting lost in the space talk and life on a ship. It is the year 2257 and it was common to have never been to earth, the “ship mind” was a real person whose body was broken enough to only have his brain survive, everyone has lenses that are connected to the ship computer and more. It was fun, it was different and I think I need more!
This was a very long audiobook. 32 hours to be exact, and I was never bored. There is a large range of character personalities so it made life on the ship interesting, but there was always something going on that kept my attention. There were battles with aliens, fights with other humans, new planets to explore and I loved it all.
The audio narrator was amazing. Truly. She made it feel like there was an entire cast of voices. She had male voices, female voices, alien voices, mechanical voices, different accents…. And she knocked all of them out of the park. If I run across more of her narratives, I will definitely be picking them up. Can I just request her to read all my books?
Content review for this one is high! For one, it is rated adult but also YA. I disagree with the YA genre because for one, there is no one of teen age. It’s adults and their careers and adult life decisions. I honestly don’t know if teens will be interested. In addition, there are at least 60 F words so keep that in mind if you’re looking at this for your teen. There is a lot of aggression and fighting, they are definitely at war with many. So there is mention of blood and killing, injuries, cutting off body parts and more. There is sex but it is very minor with not many details. All in all, I recommend this to those who love sci fi, who can handle a very long book (almost 900 pages) and who love learning space and all that entails.

Goldilocks was actually my first space opera and I loved it. I’m so excited to read this – so glad he finally wrote more after Eragon.
I think it’s being labelled YA because Eragon was YA, but in reality its not YA at all. im glad you enjoyed the audio!
I’m really excited to read this. The argument between YA and adult is really interesting. I feel like as time goes on the lines between the two blur more.
