My Opinion

(3 / 5) On holiday in France, a London teenager, Maya, heads out hiking and ends up being transported to another world. In this world she battles thieves, fights mysterious creatures and confronts magical forces, all while trying to find her way home. She meets many others and they journey with her as they try to solve the mystery.

The story was simple and modest. While enjoyable, I found myself wanting more descriptions of the land and characters. The creatures were unique and creative and I would have liked more insight into them. It is easy for me to get lost in great worlds and more narration would have satiated me. The character development was not polished but with such a short story, book 2 is bound to fill in blanks.

After yelling insults, a young woman jumps on a young woman, pulls her hair and bites her shoulder. The shoulder is bleeding. 

A young boy stole food and a man threatened to cut his hand off. 

At an orphanage, a young boy was beaten regularly. 

A young woman is taken captive and tied up.

A young man throws a rock at a man’s head, knocking him out. He throws a rock at another man’s teeth. 

Men fight in a competition. A young man punches a man in the gut, they use wooden swords, and many punches. A young man knocks out another with his wooden sword. There is fighting between multiple opponents until the young man fights a very large man who sends him flying after being hit. The young man then hits him on the head. The man is kicked and choked but he throws the young man into a wall where he faints. 

Small aggressive creatures attack a group multiple times. They have nets and spears and daggers. One bites a man, so he throws it against a rock. 

Men attack men, pushing and shoving. One gets knocked unconscious. 

Some people invade a camp and attack. The people fight back. One invader is using crescent shaped swords. The food and horses were stolen. 

Villagers tell of thieves stealing food and harming people. Many are killed. The chief was dragged behind horses for hours as punishment. He died from the injuries. 

A man shakes a woman, he threatens to take a young woman, instead he slaps her, making her fall. A young man leaps at a man, and the man falls as he loses consciousness. The young man then killed 2 with a sword. A man smashes two men’s skulls together, another knocks out a man and “disposed of” five others. A wolf dismembers some men. 

Men plan to assassinate and poison a leader. 

A man is taken to be interrogated and tortured. Many torture instruments fill the room. A man poisons the prisoner and he falls unconscious and dies when the poison burns his throat and organs.

A man punches a man, knocking him out. 

A man finds a recently killed man in a puddle of blood. 

While on a journey, many people go missing. 

A young woman fights with magic and illusions of danger. 

Potentially Intense Themes

A bear chases a young woman. She knows she will feel it’s claws on her back. 

A boar attacks a young man while hunting. His horse interferes. 

A baby was left on orphanage steps. 

Creatures in a mountain are half human half demon. They like human flesh to eat. 

Two teens are being chased by a pack of large wolves. They are separated and are both cornered by wolves and assume their death. One receives many wounds.
